Punat → Malinska
Cast off from Punat for the twelve-nautical-mile passage northwest across Kvarner Bay to Malinska, a welcoming harbour on Krk's sheltered western flank. This initial sail offers an easy introduction to the island's varied coastline, passing rugged coves and verdant hillsides often scented with wild herbs. Upon arrival, drop anchor for a refreshing swim in the crystalline shallows of Porto Bay, renowned for its calm, azure waters. Later, secure a stern-to berth in Malinska's well-appointed marina, then wander through the town's promenade, car-free for a relaxed evening stroll. For dinner, Konoba Nada is a local institution, serving authentic Krk šurlice — hand-rolled pasta often paired with a rich goulash or truffle sauce — accompanied by a glass of crisp Žlahtina wine from Vrbnik. The evening light often paints the distant Velebit Mountains in hues of gold and rose, a gentle end to the first day.

Malinska → Opatija
Depart Malinska for a pleasant twelve-nautical-mile reach northwest across the Kvarner Bay, a passage offering views of Cres's rugged eastern shore before the gentle hills of Istria rise ahead. Your destination is Opatija, the 'Austrian Riviera's' historic jewel, where Austro-Hungarian emperors once holidayed. Aim for ACI Marina Opatija, located just south in Ičići, which offers well-protected stern-to berths for catamarans; it's advisable to book ahead, especially in high season. Once secured, take the scenic walk along the Lungomare, the famous coastal promenade stretching from Volosko to Lovran, past ornate Belle Époque villas like Villa Angiolina, now home to the Croatian Museum of Tourism. The air here carries the subtle scent of maritime pine and salt, a refreshing contrast to the grandeur. For dinner, seek out a konoba in the old town for Istrian fuzi with truffles, a regional delicacy, before concluding the evening with a Maraschino sour at a waterfront bar, listening to the quiet hum of the Kvarner.

Crikvenica unfolds as a graceful crescent of pebble beaches, backed by the verdant slopes of the Vinodol Valley, where vineyards have thrived for centuries. The town's historical heart lies around the former Paulist monastery, now known as Kaštel, which guards the harbour entrance. Drop anchor in the protected waters near Kaštel, where the clear seabed reveals faint outlines of ancient Roman port structures, a subtle reminder of the region's deep past, perfect for an afternoon snorkel. For dinner, a short dinghy ride ashore brings you to Konoba Feral, a local institution renowned for its škampi na buzaru – succulent Kvarner shrimp prepared with garlic, white wine, and fresh herbs. The aroma of pine resin from the nearby hills often drifts down as the evening cools. Later, a gentle ascent to the hilltop chapel of Sv. Juraj in Grič village rewards with panoramic views across the town and the Kvarner islands, a scene often graced by swallows circling at dusk above lavender-scented terraces.

Crikvenica → Senj
The 10-nautical-mile passage south from Crikvenica to Senj offers a dramatic shift in scenery, often accompanied by the renowned Bura wind, a northeasterly that can challenge but also invigorate the passage. Baška's expansive bay, framed by the stark, treeless slopes of the Prvić channel, welcomes you to Krk's southern tip. Secure a stern-to berth in Baška harbour, then step ashore to discover the island's unique heritage. A hike to the Mesečev Plato (Moon Plateau) offers panoramic views of the Kvarner Gulf and the chance to encounter ancient Glagolitic script carved into the limestone, a testament to Croatia's early literacy. Later, unwind on Vela Plaža, Baška's famous two-kilometre pebble beach. For dinner, ascend to a traditional hillside konoba like Konoba Luce, where lamb 'pod pekom' (under the bell) is slow-cooked over olive-wood embers for three hours, the rich aroma of rosemary and sea air blending under the twilight sky.
